Trade Paperback. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Spanish Language Edition. F3 - A Spanish language edition trade paperback ex-library book in good+ to very good- condition. A tight, clean, sound copy in illustrated wraps with minor overall shelf wear with the usual library stamps and labels on the top outside paper edges and the back free endpaper. José Carlos Somoza was born in Havana in 1959, but has lived in Spain since 1960. He is the author of the novels 'White Silence' (Vertical Smile Award, 1996), 'The Painted Window' (Best Café Gijón, 1998), 'Letters of an Insiginficant Murderer' (Debate, 1999), 'Dafne Vanished' (finalist Nadal Prize, 2000), 'The Cave of Ideas' (awarded 2002 Gold Dagger for best thriller in England), translated into over twenty languages and to international critical acclaim, 'Clara and Gloom' (Fernando Lara award 2001 and Hammett Award for best crime novel 2002, chosen by the magazine 'Lire' as one of the ten best books published in France in 2003), 'The Lady Number Thirteen' (Areté, 2003) and 'The Ivory Box'(Areté, 2004). He has also written several stories, a radio script and several plays. In 'El detalle' (The Detail), for the first time in one volume, are the only three short novels that José Carlos Somoza has written to date. These works are not related only by their length. They are also united by the author's description in each of a particular obsession. In 'Planos' (Planes), the obsession is Marcelino Roimar's, a young doctor who travels to the village of Roquedal to work there for one summer. His visit is transformed into a terrifying fantasy when he experiences a glimpse into another world and the strange creature that lives there. 'The Details' is narrated by the mad Roquedal 'official', Baltasar Párraga. Despite his reputation as alienated from most people, his obsession, paradoxically, is much more rational than Roimar's. Acting as an amateur detective, Párraga investigates a series of deaths in his village that have all been attributed to natural causes. 'La Boca' (The Mouth) is not set in Roquedal and the story is also constructed differently. Its form is as strange as is the obsession of its protagonist. The story consists of a single sentence with hardly a pause. Its narrator is a dentist with a prosperous practice. His life, including his love life, seems to be mundane and predictable, but his monochrome existence is suddenly transformed when he makes, for him, the wondrously strange discovery that our exterior flesh surrounds bones. 5.4"x9", 182 pages. Satisfacción garantizada (satisfaction guaranteed). Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, this novel about a resilient and courageous woman has become a Broadway show and a cultural phenomenon.Nominated as one of Americas best-loved novels by PBSs The Great American Read. Celie has grown up poor in rural Georgia, despised by the society around her and abused by her own family. She strives to protect her sister, Nettie, from a similar fate, and while Nettie escapes to a new life as a missionary in Africa, Celie is left behind without her best friend and confidante, married off to an older suitor, and sentenced to a life alone with a harsh and brutal husband. In an attempt to transcend a life that often seems too much to bear, Celie begins writing letters directly to God. The letters, spanning twenty years, record a journey of self-discovery and empowerment guided by the light of a few strong women. She meets Shug Avery, her husbands mistress and a jazz singer with a zest for life, and her stepsons wife, Sophia, who challenges her to fight for independence. And though the many letters from Celies sister are hidden by her husband, Netties unwavering support will prove to be the most breathtaking of all. The Color Purple has sold more than five million copies, inspired an Academy Awardnominated film starring Oprah Winfrey and directed by Steven Spielberg, and been adapted into a Tony-nominated Broadway musical. Lauded as a literary masterpiece, this is the groundbreaking novel that placed Walker in the company of Faulkner (The Nation), and remains a wrenchingyet intensely upliftingexperience for new generations of readers. PROVERBIO ARABEENGLISH DESCRIPTIONDive into a new era with new rules to play by. It's time to conquer the fears that keep us from following our hearts, and take on a professional role that is useful, creative, and purposeful. This book is an experiment: it attempts to shake up your beliefs about money, work, and consumerism that have largely determined the place you occupy in the labor scene. We have been brought up to be obedient employees, passive contributors, and voracious consumers, thus keeping the economic system running. Borja Vilaseca suggests that in this new environment, it does us no good at all to get angry, act like victims, and blame some external person or entity. Rather, we have to take the reins of our own lives and become responsible for ourselves, emotionally and financially. The only thing that impedes you from becoming the architect of your own life is the fear of freedom. What Would You Do If You Weren't Afraid? offers a true map to guide you on that journey toward your personal and professional fulfillment. The clinically proven answer is yes, and The Longevity Diet is easier to follow than you'd think. The culmination of 25 years of research on aging, nutrition, and disease across the globe, this unique program lays out a simple solution to living to a healthy old age through nutrition. The key is combining the healthy everyday eating plan the book outlines, with the scientifically engineered fasting-mimicking diet, or FMD; the FMD, done just 3-4 times a year, does away with the misery and starvation most of us experience while fasting, allowing you to reap all the beneficial health effects of a restrictive diet, while avoiding negative stressors, like low energy and sleeplessness. Valter Longo, director of the Longevity Institute at USC and the Program on Longevity and Cancer at IFOM in Milan, designed the FMD after making a series of remarkable discoveries in mice, then in humans, indicating that specific diets can activate stem cells and promote regeneration and rejuvenation in multiple organs to significantly reduce risk for diabetes, cancer, Alzheimers, and heart disease. Longos simple pescatarian daily eating plan and the periodic fasting-mimicking techniques can both yield impressive results. Low in proteins and sugars and rich in healthy fats and plant-based foods, The Longevity Diet is proven to help you: Lose weight and reduce abdominal fat Extend your healthy lifespan with simple everyday changes Prevent age-related muscle and bone loss Build your resistance to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's and cancerLongos healthy, life span-extending program is based on an easy-to-adopt pescatarian plan along with the fasting-mimicking diet no more than 4 times a year, just 5 days at a time. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The problem is that Gauna can only dimly remember what happened: he was out on the town with his raucous, reckless friends when a masked woman appeared. Several hours later, gasping and horrified, Gauna awoke at the edge of a lake. Three years later, he tries to solve the mystery the only way he knows: by re-creating the same situation and reliving it- despite the warnings of his secret protector, the Sorcerer. In The Dreams of Heroes, Adolfo Bioy Casares assembles magicians, prophetic and brave women, shamefully self-conscious men and Buenos Aires under the rubric of a sinister and mocking fate, and thrusts them forward into the dizzying realm of memory, doom and cyclical time. Written in 1954, The Dream of Heroes stands as a predecessor of and model for a whole school of European and American novels that followed but never quite matched it. The editorial phenomenon that has put millennials expectations up for public debate. Andrea Aguilar, El Pais An essential literary ethnography that will endure the passing of time and will become a reference to explain the age we live in. It is a testimony about Spain, the country we are and yet we ignore. Brenda Navarro I am envious of the life my parents had at my age. This is the first line in Fair, and this simple statement is what turned its author, a young literary debutant not yet thirty years old, into the most celebrated writer in Spain, in the year 2021. The protagonist, a country girl who moves to Madrid to succeed as a writer and soon realizes a life of Netflix, iPhone, and designer coffee shops is not for her, bolsters an exciting tale upon memories, insights, and dialogues about a world that fades away, even for those that havent lived it. A working-class family with a carny side and a rural one, a free childhood, and a youth full of questions and reassessments, told by a wild and personal voice that turned this book into a classic for thousands of readers.
