From School Library Journal:
Grade 2-4 Not the folk tale used by Dukas for his musical tone poem, but the author's own version of another tale in which both master and pupil change form during a chase. Wanda Gag's Sorcerer's Apprentice (Coward, 1979; o.p.), in a volume much smaller in size, tells a similar story, but with some different details and plot structure. Muller's account adds a dove (an enchanted princess) who gives the apprentice advice, allowing him to alter the spell that the vengeful sorcerer uses after being denied his dead brother's kingdom. Muller's text is certainly well enough told, and he provides realistically drawn illustrations that feature mostly blue, yellow, and brown tones. They are dramatic, detailed, and effective, although the Disneyland castle in the last illustration seems out of place. Ronald A. Van De Voorde, Graduate Library School, University of Arizona, Tucson
