About the Author:
A refugee of the Kansas Bible Belt, Dennis Larkins has lived life on the front lines of radical times -- from Grateful Dead artist to a chronicler of skewed and alternative realities. Larkins' career spans four decades of painting and practicing theatrical trades -- scenic art, set design and more recently designing for theme parks. Larkins is pioneering and refining a bold new approach to artistic expression, working in a style forged from traditional and space age ingredients, painting sculpted relief on canvas, creating layered works of arresting depth and intense optical punch.

"Larkins relocated from the wilds of northern New Mexico to the thriving rock and roll epicenter of California's Bay Area in order to support his family. Initially landing a job washing paint buckets for the San Francisco Opera scenic shop, Larkins was quickly promoted to scenic artist, painting large theatrical backdrops. Simultaneously, he also began moonlighting for legendary rock promoter, Bill Graham, designing and painting sets for a series of concerts called Day on the Green, which Graham envisioned as "mini-Woodstocks”-open air stadium spectaculars boasting an ensemble line-up of performing artists in a positive, festival environment.”
