Over 8000 objects ranging from Flemish tap estries to classic automobiles to Sino- Tibetan gilt-bronze figures are illustrat ed and discussed. The particulars provided include a short description, date and location of sale, and price. The objects are grouped into chapters by subject (e.g., Judaica, musical instru ments, Russian works of art) and Soth eby's experts chart collecting trends in each area. Specialists such as appraisers will find the volume a handy resource, but most average readers will have little use for it because of the rarified nature of the objects.
