Immunopharmacology is that area of biology where immunology, pathology and pharmacology overlap. It concerns the pharmacological approach to the interaction of mammalian host with noxious agent or invading pathogen.
This textbook defines the field of immunopharmacology by describing in a lucid fashion the mechanisms involved in the formation, release and subsequent actions of the chemical mediators of inflammatory and immune responses and the effects of drugs on these processes. It is the only book to cover these topics comprehensively and will be of use both to final year undergraduates and to postgraduate pharmacologists.
In this Third Edition, the introductory chapter has been enlarged to cover signal transduction mechanisms in cell responses to mediators and drugs. There are three completely new chapters on angiogenesis, acute-phase protein and future prospects for drug development in immunopharmacology. Smooth muscle and eicosanoid receptors have also been included for the first time.
