FROM PREFACE: If the word 'religious' in the elemental sense belongs primarily to men, the substance of religion ought to be accessible in man's self-portayals. Therefore, we have here compiled a series of self-portayals by men who can be identified as religious. Our purpose is to show that religious factors are traceable in human affairs - particularly in the formation of a personal history. Thus we have focused on a variety of life-styles formed by religious sensitivity. The Religious Personality is a sourcebook of personal stories of men for whom a religious factor was conscious.
