Providing a step-by-step guide to applying skills-based and other therapies for the treatment of clients with substance dependence or abuse, this new edition also addresses the increasingly important areas of working with younger clients and clients with dual diagnoses. The authors use case studies to demonstrate how the various techniques can be combined and tailored to meet individual needs, and include useful lists of resources and self-help material that counsellors may share with their clients. The handouts and assessment scales that are included can be easily adapted for use with clients.

Book Description Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The first edition of this book was based upon the recommendations of the Quality Assurance in the Treatment of Drug Dependence Project, and provided a step-by-step-guide for therapists working with clients with alcohol or other drug dependency or misuse. Since publication in 1995 it has become well known for its easy-to-read style and wealth of practical resource materials. Other chapters have been updated to reflect the latest research findings and current practice, and the practice sheets and client handouts are made available online for downloading and customization by therapists. Treatment Approaches for Alcohol and Drug Dependence, Second Edition retains the easy-to-use, easy-to-read, up-to-date style of its predecessor, but now includes new chapters that reflect the latest research findings and current practices within this field.
