The creator of several simple, appealing picture books (Where Does the Brown Bear Go?, 1989) presents preschooler Angel and his mother, indoors and out, in a city neighborhood where they live between ``El Bodegero'' and ``Pepe's Luncheonette.'' The simple text highlights seasonal changes and activities (``On a cold winter day...Mama says, `Bundle up...' '') and year-round affection, while in the airy, simple compositions there are intriguing details to follow: a cat that reappears, items on sale at the store, the contents of a rooftop clothesline.
