From School Library Journal:
Grade 3-5-Little takes a fresh approach to presenting information about hippos and other animals, birds, and reptiles by stringing together diverse facts in an entertaining way. For example, he informs readers that "a hippopotamus can spend all day in the water doing nothing...without the aid of a Walkman" and notes that seagulls need "a mountain of household garbage liberally sprinkled with fish heads" as one of his zany suggestions for attracting birds in the backyard. The trivia is always cloaked in humor. Occasionally, the truth is hard to glean because of the offbeat format. But, for the most part, this is exactly the science carrot that librarians need to wave in front of reluctant nonfiction readers. The accomplished pen-and-ink and watercolor wash illustrations are wonderfully comic and colorful. All in all, this browsers' paradise is a charmer.
