From Library Journal:
For those who wish to "be their own bosses" and run a small business, two new guides are available. In Burstiner's Small Business Management, a revised and updated edition of his earlier publication ( LJ 12/1/79), he covers the major aspects of becoming an entrepreneur through owning and operating a small business. The book includes current statistics and recent developments in such matters as taxation and law. Among topics covered are the pros and cons of small business ownership, selecting business ventures, franchising, management techniques, marketing, and advertising. Especially valuable are the "For Further Information" listings at the end of the chapters; these are bibliographies of books as well as pamphlets and booklets available, including those provided by the Small Business Administration. An excellent guide and starting point for present and future entrepreneurs. Reading about "real life" experiences of entrepreneurs is a valuable way for prospective small business owners to gather information. Levitt, founder and sole proprietor of Custom House Shirt Makers, has written a practical guide to running a business. He tells his own success story, as well as those of 16 other entrepreneurs. Levitt also offers advice on managerial, marketing, and legal aspects of small business operation. Recommended.
